Before we begin...

Webster's dictionary defines the word 'art' as "the conscious use of skill and creative imagination, especially in the production of aesthetic objects". Taken at face value, it can be pretty simple to see why I consider video games a form of art. They are created by skilled men and women, and use some of the most creativity seen in popular media today. Models, characters, architecture, and other bits and bobs seen on the screen can be considered 'aesthetic objects', as well.

The fun thing with art is that everything about it, from what constitutes art to what is tasteful or enjoyable, is entirely subjective. I could debate all day and all night about what constitutes this and that, but in the end the real judge of artistic merit is you.

All I ask is that, should you feel so inclined, please pick up a controller and give some of these a whirl. You might be surprised at what you'll find!
